The Mind of a Chef is a great show on PBS (!) that combines food, cooking, travel and history. It is produced and narrated by Anthony Bourdain, so if you like/are familiar with his style, you know what you're in for. Season two, featuring Sean Brock and April Bloomfield, just became available on Netflix for streaming so go check it out.
I like this series much more than anything you find on the Food Network. Food Network tends to show more reality based, contest type shows that, while entertaining, overlooks most of what I look for in a show about food: new and interesting cuisines, the places they originate from and how to cook them. The Mind of a Chef hits on all of these. Season one, featuring David Chang, is also available.
